TRUCAPE KOGELBERG MOUNTAIN CHALLENGE 2011
TRU-CAPE KOGELBERG 2011 CHALLENGE OFFERS EVEN MORE
The 2011 Tru-Cape Kogelberg Challenge on Saturday, 10 September 2011, in Pringle Bay offers runners no only the opportunity to participate in one or all of the three races presented on the day, but also to enjoy the annual Pringle Bay Windgat Festival.
The Windgat Festival will be once again an event not to be missed with many stalls and local businesses participating. As the festival will take place in the Pringle Bay central business area, this will also be the venue for the start and finish of the Tru-cape Mountain Challenge.
Entertainment at the festival includes the Eco School/KidsCan Play (especially written for the festival by Louise Smit and directed by Trix Pienaar), an endemic flower exhibition hosted by the Pringle Bay Church, the Pringle Bay Conservancy Heritage Photo Exhibition and Conservancy Exhibition, an indigenous plant sale hosted by the Pringle Bay Conservancy, several educational talks for young and old (incl. Stony Point Penguin Colony, Boland Leopard Project, Pat Dewil, Cape Nature, Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve among others), free educational talks for regional schools, several musical events (incl. Bands at Perigators and Drostersgat), an art exhibition by local artists and a special display/performance by the regional fire brigade.
The Kogelberg Challenge consists of a fully-fledged half marathon, starting at 07:30, a 10km race, starting at 10:30 and a themed fancy dress 5km fun run, starting at 12:00. All of these races contain challenging climbs, a river crossing and the beach run that hallmarked the Kogelberg as a must-do event.
For the serious athletes this is a good opportunity to get up to 36 tough kilometers on the legs. For this effort they will get certification for the full distance and a special beer glass to remember it by at no additional cost.
Walkers are also welcome and will have enough time to finish the half marathon.
Entries has already opened on Entrytime.co.za. On race day only entries for the fun run will be taken at the start/finish area.

THE 2010/11 HAC SUMMER SERIES
Hangklip Athletics is once more extending itself to offer local and visiting runners an opportunity to enjoy their sport in one of the most scenic areas of our country by presenting the 2010/11 HAC Summer Series, consisting of
SA Police Service Walk against Abuse of Women and Children (21.1 km and Fun Walk) on Saturday 11 December 2010 at 07:00;
SupaQuik/ST Motors Stranddienste Beach Miles (16:00), 10km race (18:00) and Fun Run (18:10) on Thursday 23 December 2010;
The Blue Flag Beach Miles on Friday 7 January 2011 at 16:00 on the Kleinmond Beach; and
The Blue Flag Beach 10km Nite Race and Fun Run on Friday 7 January 2011 at 18:00 at the Big Blue Festival Area near the Kleinmond Lagoon.
Unfortunately we had to cancel the planned event for Betty’s Bay on 27 December.
The series was presented for the first time during the 2008/09 holiday period and was regarded a huge success in terms of participation as well as positive publicity for Hangklip-Kleinmond and the Totalsports Challenge/Big Blue Festival, despite a very small budget. In total more than 800 entries were received. This trend was continued last year and despite a reduced number of races because of the lack of sponsorships, once again 800 participants entered the events.
The HAC Summer Series will not be under the banner of the Big Blues Festival this year as a new time slot has been decided upon for the music festival, but as a sporting event we want to stay close with the Totalsports Challenge and the concept of a series of summer holiday running events.
Road running events are the major sources of income for the Hangklip Athletics Club.
The club is running an athletics development programme,including:
Promoting the sport amongst the youth, by creating opportunities for training and participation in all fields of athletics – track and field, cross country and road running;
Presenting local events for all athletes;
Working towards the construction of an athletics track in Kleinmond with the help of Lotto and other funds, which will be followed by equipping it with the necessary athletic implements, as well as maintaining the park on a high standard.
In addition the series creates employment and fund raising opportunities for the local community. It also boosts the local economy.
Come and support us. The continued existence of the HAC Summer Series is very important to the club and the community and should be beneficial to any sponsor in terms of positive exposure
Further enquiries can be directed via our club secretary, Sandy Keizerwaard, at 079 413 6610 and we will gladly meet with you to discuss the details of the events at any time.
